BROTHERS GRIMM STUDY HALL - WEEK 5 REVIEW
I agree with your overall assessment of SPW. It is worthy of a watchlist and has future potential once it completes a bottom. With its diversity, it has less impact on the solar market than if that was its primary revenue source. That being said, diversity of product line is critical during global recessions. Not all solar energy companies will survive this.
Excellent work team,
Martha

We would put this stock on our watchlist at this point. Bottom is not yet formed/cannot be determined right now and more downward action could take place. Fundamentals of the company are strong (as Laura summarized for the group), but in this environment with the economy and what is happening/will continue to happen in the market we would not buy at this time. Still on the road but found an internet hotspot. Thank you all for picking up my slack. My research tells me that SPW is a successful company that will do well as the market turns up generally. They are so diversified that as one division lags, another may be able to carry the load. The company as a whole is doing many things right. As a "solar company", solar is a small part of their overall endeavors. They will probably not take part in or be a major part of 'moving the market' in the area of solar energy. I would put them on a watchlist to follow with the general market, but not on a solar company watchlist. John

SPX(SPW) as a whole seems to be a very stable company with a good management team willing to make changes when ever needed to continue to grow and stay profitable. SPX major involvement in the solar energy sector at this time is in the assisting of other companies that harness solar energy. I do not think that SPX will be a leader in the solar energy everyday consumer product industry. SPX could be a leader in and possibly will be a leader manufacturing products to assist other companies producing solar energy. SPX(SPW) is definitely one to watch for long term. Linda

BROTHERS GRIMM STUDY HALL - WEEK 4 REVIEW
Very good work on your week 4 summary. I know keeping up with the assignments has been a challenge, but I hope you have learned a great deal and feel that it has been worth the effort.
SPW was a good study for you and you have done a wonderful job with the analysis of the prerequisites.
SPW is an older firm but reinvention can be a new opportunity for the company and it could easily align itself with a smaller firm to partner a global dominance.
SPW has been moving up steadily on its chart with a modest upward angle of ascent out of the low of Nov. Can you see this on the daily chart?
When a company shows such solid strength in a down bear market, it is something to pay attention to. Also I would call the BOP of recent months quiet accumulation. The higher lows of the sideways action indicates strengthening price patterns.
Given the current economic conditions however, a more reasonable entry would be an initial position trade.
SPW has plenty of work to do if it wants to dominate the solar energy industry in its sector.
You chose a different stock that most of the other study halls but this was a good thing. You stepped out of the box and your stock is doing fine in a bear market.
Excellent work!
Martha
